The Iconic 1945 B-15 Flight Jacket Story

The B-15 was the standard-issue flight jacket of the United States Army Air Force from 1944 to 1947. Pike Brothers reproduces this iconic piece with absolute period accuracy: the same olive sateen shell, the same mouton fur collar, the same orange interior lining for visibility in case of crash. Each piece comes with the original USAAF label reproduced from Pike Brothers archives.

Why the B-15 still matters in 2026

Unlike the more famous A-2 (leather flight jacket), the B-15 was made for the new generation of pressurized bombers like the B-29 Superfortress. It was lighter, warmer, and offered freedom of movement that pilots needed in cramped cockpits. Today, the B-15 is the perfect mid-season jacket: warmer than a sweatshirt, lighter than a leather jacket, with that unmistakable WWII silhouette.

Construction details

  • Shell: Olive sateen cotton + nylon, water-resistant
  • Lining: Original orange survival color
  • Collar: Real mouton fur, can be folded down
  • Closure: Original Talon zipper reproduction
  • Pockets: 2 slash hand pockets + 1 utility pocket on left arm
  • Cuffs & waistband: Knit elastic in original WWII style

How to wear it

The B-15 pairs perfectly with raw denim and white tee — the classic 1945 GI returning home look. Try it with our 16oz prison pants and 1966 Explorer boots for an authentic vintage look. The mouton collar removable means you can wear it from October to April. Olive USAAF green also pairs surprisingly well with selvedge indigo and dark brown leather.

Sizing

Pike Brothers B-15 runs true to size with a slightly cropped (period-accurate) length. Order your usual jacket size; if between sizes, go up if you plan to layer a heavy sweater underneath.
