The wool beanie ” SAILORS CONVICTS ” is made in a old French Family Hosiery in French BRITTANY.
Convicts of the Penal colony
The convicts arrived chained by the neck, in groups of 24, cords or cadènes, on haquets.
Upon their arrival, they were cropped, dressed in a silks of red wool, in a vest of red wool, in a shirt of white painting(cloth), in a pants of yellow painting(cloth) and in a pair of shoes shod without bottom(stocking).
They also carried(wore) a woolen hat(cap), the color of which indicated the duration of the condemnation: the red hat(cap) for the condemned persons in time and the green hat(cap) for the life prisoners.
A tin plaque, concerned the silks, the vest and the hat(cap), indicated roll of the condemned person. Those who worked outside also received a pea jacket of grey wool.
The plate(patch) fixed to the hat(cap), the only metallic room(part,play) of this set(group), is normally iron
